Talia B. Baker, MD, FACS is a nationally recognized transplant and liver cancer surgeon with over 20 years of leadership at leading academic institutions, including Northwestern University, the University of Chicago, and the University of Utah. An international thought leader in transplant oncology, she founded and chairs the American Society of Transplant Surgeons’ Transplant Oncology Task Force, helping establish standards for multidisciplinary care and patient selection. In 2024, Dr. Baker launched LORI – the Liver Oncology Reimagined Initiative, an AI-powered, EMR-integrated orchestration ecosystem designed to address systemic fragmentation, variation, and inequity in liver cancer care. LORI enables coordinated, evidence-adaptive decision-making across teams while generating real-world clinical evidence to accelerate translation of innovation into everyday patient care.
Dr. Slaker is a board-certified physician and visionary leader in clinical medicine with more than two decades of specialized experience in liver disease, transplant medicine, and the care of medically complex patients. His career spans both academic institutions and community practice settings, providing him with a comprehensive understanding of how liver disease presents, progresses, and is managed across diverse patient populations and healthcare systems. This broad perspective has positioned him as a trusted expert in tackling high-acuity liver disease challenges across varied care settings through innovative, patient-centered solutions that reshape how advanced liver disease is understood and treated. Known for his integrity, evidence-based practice, and unwavering commitment to patient advocacy, Dr. Slaker is dedicated to advancing reliable, accessible, and clinically sound solutions for individuals facing liver cancer.
